It has been said that missed periods is also known as amenorrhea or the absence of normal menstruation. Usually woman experiences 11-13 menstrual periods over a year, if she is affected with amenorrhea she may not experience menstruation within at least 6 months or over a year. There are two types of amenorrhea these are; Primary Amenorrhea and Secondary Amenorrhea.
Late Period: A Symptom of Pregnancy
One way or another, most women experience late period. Due to lots of possible causes like stress, hormonal imbalance or physical changes, women sometimes had missed periods or sometimes irregular menstruation cycle. But for those women having some active sexual activities, especially those that are married ones, having delayed menstrual period for weeks maybe a good sign of pregnancy.
For married couples, having a baby is one of the most awaited events of their married life. For women, pregnancy signifies the beginning of being a mother and a full-pledge woman. Since menstrual cycle is the basis of the reproductive cycle of a woman, rough changes such as late period, will indicate a hope of upcoming baby.
Missed period occurs when days, even weeks after normal twenty eight days of cycle had passed but still your period is not yet coming. Some women are used to have irregular periods that make this scenario a normal thing. Some are just having a stressful life that cause physical changes and affects the monthly period. Some women have few weeks or even months of delays due to lot of physical reasons. In this case, having some sort of menstrual period delays may not cause pregnancy.
Missed period and pregnancy myth
Missed periods don’t necessarily mean pregnancy. Although pregnancy may cause missed periods, there are still other factors to consider. So for women out there, amenorrhea in a month can be because of life changing events other than sex. Naturally, after the menarche or first period, ladies should expect to have their menstruation every month. This is generally true those with regular periods, but for others, their menstrual cycle becomes abnormal for various reasons.
Stress is one of the very reasons for missed periods. Scientifically, stress causes the body to decrease the amount of hormones released. Since menstrual cycle is dictated by the release of hormones, the amount of hormones like follicle-stimulating hormones and luteinizing hormones which helps release the estrogen and progesterone are decreased. Stress can come in many forms without women acknowledging it. For instance, a new job, massive workload, sleeping in the wee hours of the morning and even getting a woman’s heartbroken causes stress.
